Okay so I just watched Avatar again for the first time since watching it in theaters and am still a little bit confused about the plot towards the end. What does everyone think about the possibility or relationship between humans and the Navii?

Hey Avatar fans!
I am a student at Indiana University and I am currently enrolled in a Human Computer Interaction Design class. Our class was just proposed a team project involving a sci-fi movie. Our professor gave us a list of movies to work off of so we decided to work with Avatar. The project is to design some sort of technology for a character in a potential sequel(Avatar 2). This can be a weapon, tool, application, etc. It just has to be technology related and involve a primary character from Avatar. The design also needs to be somehow computer related with some sort of user interface that we will be designing. Let me know if anyone has any ideas and ideology behind the ideas! I am curious to see what this will lead to. Be imaginative and creative. We are very interested in seeing what you think could benefit the primary characters(perhaps Jake Sully, Dr. Norm Spellman, etc.) Post a reply or leave me an email at skoniecz@umail.iu.edu. |

I remember watching it for the first time a week and a half ago, and the sorrow was overwhelming. My Sis and I were discussing about the film after we walked out of the cinema, describing how it was beautiful and moving. After that day, my Sister had moved on, the feeling had left her, whereas for me, it was still there inside of me, my heart feeling heavier than ever... I couldn't help but watch this film again, and so I did... a few more times. The heavy hearted feeling still hasn't fully disappeared, some of it is still there inside of me, but I am coping with it much better now than earlier today. I guess this feeling of sorrow has to do with some of the things involved with the film, for example, the reviews. The reviews bug me because they all state the same thing, never mentioning the emotional experience we receive during and after the film ends. The response from the public is mostly positive, but there is no sign of, "Wow, I was moved after watching that...". It's all "The CGI was amazing, the action was cool." I don't want to hear any of that, sure, they are positive, but what about the experience Cameron intended for us... The experience was great because the visuals were stunning, but I'm talking about experiencing the movie as a whole...experiencing the joy, anger, laughter and sorrow the film presents to us. Anyway, did anybody feel anything after leaving the cinema from watching Avatar? If so, how long did this feeling last within you?

Those of you who have seen Avatar, Titanic or Alice in Wonderland in 3D can you comment on the quality of the 3D? Was it worth the money? Would you recommend the film in 3D? 2D?

I expected yet-another goofy sci-fi. I got a panorama view of someone's very rich imagination with few restraints. However... some of the more outstanding visuals were understated, for instance the floating islands that placed visuals against physics and unexpectedly visuals won. These were incredibly produced and presented but seemed minimized. Most of the critters were engineering marvels, a few of which were powerful enough (visually) to have slow-moving psyches. It takes a few precious moments for a critter to transition to rage and these moments make him/her/it infinitely more believable, even with an extra set of forelegs. If the planet's gravity was less than earth's, creatures would have been scaled up, and they were.
The technology was a mix of late 20th and early 21st century and a little outdated considering what would have been available. The corporate wallpaper was a little thin, again, understandable considering the balance job the director was faced with.

First off just let me hell and thanks to Alike and Dustpaint for creating this website. I’ve been scouring the web for all sorts of things about Avatar for months, ever since I first heard about the film, but it seems like these two have got all the latest info neatly together in one place, certainly a lot more than I can find.
I do prefer a ‘none official’ fan website as I believe it tends more towards honest criticism both good and bad. Thanks guys :) Anyway, back to the thread topic, I thought it would be a nice idea to say Hi and hopefully more people will follow suit in this thread. I live in a small village just north of Andover in the UK, married with two kids, in my late 40’s. I really enjoy decent sci-fi and fantasy movies and haven’t been this excited about a film since The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I can’t wait till the 19th of Dec when we’ve all seen the movie and have a place to discuss it with like-minded fans.

John Cusack is, like most of his characters, an unconventional hero. Wary of fame and repelled by formulaic Hollywood fare, the Chicago-born actor has built a successful career playing underdogs and odd men out–all the while avoiding the media spotlight. With the exception of mom Nancy (a former math teacher), the Cusack clan is all show business: father Dick Cusack is an actor and filmmaker, and John’s siblings Joan Cusack, Ann Cusack, Bill Cusack and Susie Cusack are all thespians by trade. Like his brother and sisters, John became a member of Chicago’s Piven Theatre Workshop while he was still in elementary school. By age 12, he already had several stage productions, commercial voice overs and industrial films under his belt. He made his feature film debut at 17, acting alongside Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy in the romantic comedy Class (1983). His next role, as a member of Anthony Michael Hall’s geek brigade in Sixteen Candles (1984), put him on track to becoming a teen-flick fixture. Cusack remained on the periphery of the Brat Pack, sidestepping the meteoric rise and fall of most of his contemporaries, but he stayed busy with leads in films like The Sure Thing (1985) and Better Off Dead… (1985). Young Cusack is probably best remembered for what could be considered his last adolescent role: the stereo-blaring romantic Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything… (1989). A year later, he hit theaters as a grown-up, playing a bush-league con man caught between his manipulative mother and headstrong girlfriend in The Grifters (1990).

Did James Cameron accept money from the tobacco industry in order to have Sigourney Weaver smoke in his movie? It is pathetic to see gratuitous smoking in movies. I am disappointed in James and Sigourney. This has got to stop.

After seeing the movie at the theatre with the whole family we hired the dvd when it came out and then bought a copy when that became available. After watching the dvd about twenty times I decided to see if there was a director's cut out there, there was more than that - the re-release version, the theatre version, an alernate introduction and unfinished scenes were to be found on a collectors edition. Bought it immediately! Have seen that probably eight or ten times already. Now I await the next in the series with great anticipation. If I were to script the next film I would begin at the end of the first with Jake communing with Eywe before he awakens as one of the people. She would take the form of Grace, perhaps in the company of others that died in the battle, and warn him that the humans would return, sending him on a quest to unite the world against the coming threat. This could be where the oceans become a scene of crossover, perhaps the world is separated into two dfferent entities, Eywa on the land and a different and separate entity in the seas. After joining the two entities, and their separate biospheres, combined with the new knowledge acquired from Grace, a biological space armada might be assembles against an attack on the entire biosphere in the third installment... Just a thought...

Ever since his emergence with a stunning performance as an abused stepson in “This Boy’s Life” (1993), actor Leonardo DiCaprio was expected to achieve greatness by critics and the public alike. Luckily, DiCaprio met expectations, thanks to an Oscar-worthy performance as a mentally challenged teenager in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” (1993) and as a troubled teen in “Marvin’s Room” (1996). While he became a bona fide star, nothing prepared him for the life-changing celebrity he achieved with “Titanic” (1997). Almost overnight, DiCaprio went from a popular actor to an international media sensation, complete with countless interviews, teen magazine covers and the relentless hounding of the paparazzi. While he never wanted to reach such heights – he always thought of himself as an edgy indie actor – DiCaprio had no choice but to ride the teen idol wave. Eventually, the furor died down and DiCaprio managed to complete the seemingly impossible transition from child actor to adult star, thanks in large part to his collaboration with director Martin Scorsese. Starting with the hyper-violent “Gangs of New York” (2002), DiCaprio and Scorsese made a series of films that seemed to revitalize each artist both creatively and in the market, culminating in the Oscar-winning crime epic, “The Departed” (2006). His transformation was complete with his star turn in “Inception” (2010), Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending thriller that became a global box office hit. Because of his deep well of talent and determination, DiCaprio was able to accomplish the rare feat of fulfilling his early youthful promise.
