"I'm glad I found this thread. Makes me feel a little more comfortable feeling the way I do. I have seen the movie three times and may see it a fourth. I too have felt a feeling of a sorrow after seeing this movie. It has lingered for days. I almost feel out of touch with some of the people around me. My girlfriend liked the movie but does not feel the same way as I do. While I understand that Pandora doesn't exist (that we know of) I can't help but compare it to Earth as well as humans and their relationship with the Earth. Especially after seeing this movie, I have grown critical of the attitudes of people running in this rat race we call life who constantly drift further and further from our original relationship with this Earth. But I have to give myself a heavy dose of reality and just use the feelings this movie gave me to be a better, stronger person. and I have taken many more walks in the woods lately, so thats cool. "

I saw the film 2 years ago and simply stated my life changed, while I never connected to fantasy aspects of the film its mirror connections to the real world issues where very strong and even today I simply dont look at day to day life and the natural world in the same light out of intrest I decided to research Avatars connections and found just how much work went into the films spiritual and cultural links running under avatars fantasy shell they are very well researched and presented Simply stated "Avatar is a Mirror" look at at ourselves. and its not suprising many did not like what they saw.

Wow this site is slow someone forget to shovel some coal into the server this morning, Yes of course there are a lot of connections in Avatar and everyone sees the film from there perspective , many as well as me commit on how strongly it made them feel about freedom and social justice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIsjtncKp0Y I have been trying to bulid a tree of connections to symboligy in the film and how people relate to it ,in understanding how the films story engine works, cultural connections alone fill a whole page I have an honest beleaf Cameron also Mirrored real world conflicts and looked at what people felt was missing in todays sociaty I feel avatar and understanding how its toolset works may hold key at least in part to bringing awareness to very real isues we all face , Nature of things David Suzuki is trying this in his documentarys and has seen some very impressive results in how people relate and understand the world by understanding its connections at an emotional; level.

"He always wants the challenge, he always wants to push the envelope and raise the bar and I think audiences will demand that of Avatar 2.

At the end of the story his human body died and he was fully within his new alien body. This was well before 2003. yes how true, why I allways understand that the film is a fantasy creation, I must also ask Why did James Cameron Create it in the first place ? In hearing him speak I must also assume he was "sincere" in what he did, He genuinely cares about the issues he sees in the real world and felt moved to action on this issue I do get upset when I see the media use words like Avatard to label people who feel deep sadness after seeing the film while it is true some get caught in the films fantasy and see our real world as Dull and unintresting" compared to James wonderous fantasy land the vast majority see the conection to "real" issues here on earth and this opens there eyes in a way they have never experened and yes suprisingly they feel true sadness for what they now "see" in our real world, the fact that many act on this and make positive world change realy makes me beleve in the power of humanity in a very deep way (of course not everyone has this experence but giving the "label" Avatard to those that relate deaply to real world issues is simply wrong and a true fault in our sociaty. take a look at this example on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ojdTLhWsRA

While the hype for Avatar has mosly passed , people still relate quite strongly to many of the issues addressed in the film and as we all know there are plenty of very real global issues that mirror Avatars story , Avatar is one of a few rare films that has spawned real world change and many people comit on how strongly it has made them "question" our direction in the world, In a age where negitivity drives the everyday news where our children are taught to "fear" strangers, seeing positive change is very important, The story telling tools the film uses (using a fantasy example to put us in the shoes of "another" and, the fact the "another" is a race we cant slap a label on from past history is also a plus. To view ourselves from that viewpoint and to directly see the""Mechanism" of war in action, the fact the film takes place in a future time period also helps as we cant label it an event from the past )This can be a very powerfull tool for change in the world today. to say these tools are important is an understatment and understanding how they work having seen first hand the results of ego and greed on todays world (we work with refuges) is one reason I have so much respect for what James Cameron is trying to do.
