Smoking-Out of Place & Out of Line
Dec 30 2009, 8:58 PM EST
Whether the smoking of a cigarette (albeit a single one) was deliberate, and regardless of who made or influenced the decision; it is just flat wrong and gratuitous. It is an unnecessary way to establish a character, in a youth-rated films, that will be seen countless times by children and teens. The science is no longer being disputed. Smoking on screen influences youth smoking behavior! Responsible film makers must address this. If it is not historically accurate, smoking has no place in a film like this. Shame on the studio and all parties responsible for making this film. As a parent, I find it reprehensible and nonsensical too!

ok well as a parent your responcible for explaining to your kids the cons. of smoking, you give them the facts of "hey it'll kill you" and if they choose to smoke then guess what....thats there choice! when i was a kid i saw plenty of smoking on screen ( i was growing up befor hilary pms'ed all over movies and games) and i dont smoke and there are thousands that have seen what ive seen as kids and make the same choice partly cause of responcible parenting and having the facts given to us and partly cause well idk i guess i have a problem with the whole possably dying young thing. andf from now on you non-smoking troll post in the "off topic" part. and its one sceen IN A 3 HOUR MOVIE!!! get over it

1) Its three scenes in a three hour movie, since you are such an expert & fan, go watch the movie & count! 2) When I grew up, everyone smoked on screen & off. The problem is that now, almost no one smokes, and somehow magically in the past decade and a half, there is as much smoking in youth-rated films (66% of all PG 13 films & a 1/3 of PG ones) as there was when over half the adults smoked. In CA only 13% of adults smoked, So, why is this proportion so "out of whack". 3) The movie was awesome, but this aspect of it was unneeded & is promoting a product, either directly, or unwittingly. Again, the science is IN, smoking on screen influences youth smoking attitudes & behavior!!! 4) Learn how to spell, which would be a responsible thing to do. Do you find this valuable? |
