Avatar Box Office
Jan 18 2010, 8:51 PM EST | Post edited: Jan 18 2010, 11:21 PM EST
Avatar has now reached $1.6 billion dollars, just $200 million away from James Cameron's previous movie and current all-time highest grossing film- Titanic. Theoretically, since The Blindside is STILL in theaters and it lanched on November 30th, 2009, Avatar will likely remain in theaters for at least another month. So what does that mean? Chances are Avatar blows the $2 billion dollar door off its hinges and becomes by far the highest grossing movie of all time. All I can say is thank you to James Cameron and the entire Avatar crew for creating this epic film and literally changing the lives of millions of people. Do you find this valuable?

That is what I am hoping. It looks like its dropping to 40 mil per week now in the American Box office. What does that mean overseas? I guess if you give it another month it can beat 1.84 billion by Titanic? It is still rising impressively in the ranks of all time highs domestically as well. Do you find this valuable?

It surely will beat Titanic, why wouldn't they leave it on screen? All tickets are sold out weeks before in IMAXes, they'd have to be real idiots to do so. My guesses go for 2.3-2.5 billions of total profit. Do you find this valuable?

And worth every penny, I bet there is no other film that has been seen multiple times by so many people, I know I'll be going again! It will be a sad day when it does finish at the box office but a least when it comes out on dvd we will be able to get lost in Avatar over and over again whenever we want.

yep! i was really excited when i found out about this. unfortunately though, theres a lot of talk about Avatar an Titanic not being on a level playing field because most of Avatar's revenue was in 3D theatres. i think thats kind of stupid, but you know. one thing i like to point out to people who wont accept Titanic's defeat is that when you factor in inflation, Gone With the Wind is actually the top grossing movie ever (6 billion). their faces are pretty funny. but with profits this high, a sequel is basically guranteed. and i doubt it will disappoint, cuz james cameron actually makes decent sequels Do you find this valuable?

I can't wait for that day. Cameron should push to get this thing out on DVD sooner rather than later. this fan base grows daily and i don't know about all of you, but i can't find enough out there on the subject.

This weekend it's being estimated that AVATAR will make 26.4 million. I think it will be more, as I think all weekend figures have been records for each week since release. It still is in more theaters than most movies released since then. Do you find this valuable?

I think there's a good chance Avatar beats Dear John this weekend, and if ut does it won't be challenged for the top spot until Alice in Wonderland comes out. Do you find this valuable?

Last weekend boxoffice for AVATAR was only 22.9 Million. It's dropping off pretty fast now. Next weekend it may only be 18.? Million or lower. I'm going to add to it next week, that's for sure.

Yeah, me too, I am going tomorrow with my sister who stil has not seen it & my brother who saw it once with me already. I was so glad to see Avatar beat Dear John every day since Sunday too. It appears Dear John only beat Avatar last Friday & Saturday & Avatar gave DJ a run for the money on Saturday anyway. I will probably be seeing it at the theater a few more times before Alice kicks it off of the 3D screens the 1st week in March. I read in the paper that it is a true phenomenon that more people are seeing this movie multiple times than any movie in history probably. How they would know that is hard to say except for taking polls maybe. But the numbers do speak for themselves. I know most of my friends have not tried to see it more than once. But I will probably see this movie hundreds of times once I have a good blu ray copy. I was concerned that it might get beat out by Shutter Island next weekend, not sure if The Wolfman will do any major box office or not. I actually want to see both of those movies myself, but I don't have to see them in a theater, I could wait for both of those to be on DVD. I really need to see Avatar at the theater in 3D, the best way to see it in my opinion.
