AVATAR Trivia
Jan 30 2010, 11:01 PM EST | Post edited: Jan 30 2010, 11:01 PM EST
Too me one of the appealing things about AVATAR was the amount of detail in everything that made the movie. If you have already seen the movie or are about to see the movie again, here are just a few trivial things that you may like to pick up on:

1. Jake’s and Norm’s avatar’s are in their packing cases and ready to be shipped first from the front of the cargo bay of the Valkyrie Shuttle when it first lands on Pandora near the start of the movie.

2. The photo’s of Dr Augustine and the young Navi school children, including Naytiri, on the food cabinet door at the remote Hallelujah mountain station are 3D photographs.

3. When Jake first rides Toruk (Last Shadow) into the well of the ‘tree of souls’, and is walking towards the homeless and depressed Omaticaya you will notice at least 2 of the Na’vi in the crowd are darker in colour and smaller in stature than the rest of the Omaticaya.

4. The bullet holes in Trudy’s tiltrotor flying machine, that were received during the escape from mining base, have patches over them in the last renegade scene before she is shot down. These patches allowed her to breathe normally inside her flying machine without her exopack on.

Enjoy the show.

Interesting. I had only noticed number 2 - the 3D photograph. Do you find this valuable?

Yeah, what a trivia game (Trivial Pursuit version?) that would make. I'd buy it in a flash.
Someone should suggest to James Cameron.

I bet there will be a Monopoly game too.

No doubt, but I bet the Trivial Pursuit game would be better, especially if they came out with expansion modules.

This next lot of AVATAR trivia is presented in the form of questions:

1. What rank was Jake in the marines?

2. What was the name of the tree under which Jake and Naytiri made love?

3. How many changes of upper body wardrobe did Naytiri go through in the movie?

4. There are 2 common physical appearance differences between Avatars and the Na’vi and there is 1 uncommon physical appearance difference. What are they?

Have fun

The answers to number 1 and number 2 are correct. The Na'vi have 4 digits on their hands and feet, where as the human avatars have 5, however I cannot find any difference in the eye's, as depicted in the movie. The human avatars have eyebrows, where as the Na'vi do not. Also, some of the avatars have human type noses, however Jake's nose is more like that of the Na'vi.

In the movie Naytiri has 4 changes of wardrobe. They are the everyday feather necklace, the horizontal feather necklace used at Jakes rebirthing/initiation ceremony, her green crystalline beaded necklace worn when Jake and Nytiri were joined before Eywa under the Tree of Voices, and her woven yellow halter worn with war paint.

Here are 3 final trivia questions:

1. What does RDA stand for?

2. What is the name of Naytiri’s Ikran (banchee)?

3. What does “oe tse’a aynga” mean?

Yeah, i noticed those pods but didn't realise the avatars were in there. Thought they were military stuffs. And that eyebrow differences between Dreamwalker and Na'vi people, that's new to me! Definitely gotta watch out for that.

1. Resources Development Administration
2. Cisse (Or something that sounds like it)
3. I -- see/sense -- all'you

So, do I win a toaster or something?

Well done. My limited Na'vi - English dictionary tells me that 'oe tse'a aynga' means I see you. There are no prizes. However I encourage to to go and see AVATAR again, all in the name of research mind you, to pick up on the trivia items mentioned at the start of this thread. The last time I saw the movie I noticed that there were 3 darker Na'vi in the sceen decribed in trivia item 3 at the start of this thread.

Here's a trivia that most would probably have missed.

Right after Jake (as a Na'vi) smashed and blinded the cameras of the huge yellow trucks/demolishers, quarritch and co were watching a playback, back at the main office.

Then Quarritch beckons the person controlling the playback to stop, which he did, BUT weirdly enough, IF anyone notices it, the stopped button wasn't pressed. Aha! Now..

1. Guess which button instead was pressed? (and somehow the video playback still stopped instead of doing whatever it was supposed to do.)

I just discovered this thread and think it's great--thanks for the initiative (oops, that's similar to what Quaritch says to Jake after the debriefing following his initial entry into the Na'vi clan; I should channel someone else).

OK, here's my paltry contribution:

1. Which main character's name is derived from--and therefore sounds like--a verb in Na'vi? (Meaning it sounds something like: "S/he who ...")
2. What is the name of Jake's Ikran?
3. There is one other creature on Pandora that can kill a leonopteryx, other than another Torok. What is it?

That's it for now. I'll see if I can find a toaster for Zahelu! :-)

He presses the fast foward button again. I wondered about this at the time; because I don't use this function very often, I was not quite sure that this was right.

There does not appear to be too many bloopers in AVATAR. I know may people take great delight in picking them up when they occur, but forget about the enjoyment of the whole movie experience. I suspect something as obvious as this may have been left in the movie just to cater for the needs these people.

Of cause little bloopers like this typically over shadow bigger bloopers, or errors of fact such as there probably is no such mineral as unobtanium. If unobtanium were present, then why did it not interrupt radio and avatar communications. Did you notice any other bloopers?

Did anyone else notice that Norm's avatar had an almost rabbit like demeanor? Especially in the first few scenes? Towards the end he got some nads and seemed a litttle less hmm rodent / prey like? Jake, Nytirii and most of the other Navii had more cat / predetor like personalities. Do you find this valuable?

Yes it appears that some human features like noses are not always created in the likeness of the Na'vi. Grace's nose is also human like, whereas Jake's is Na'vi like. Human avatars also have hairy eye brows and the Na'vi do not.

I wish I could get ya a toaster Valdamar, but there's none lying around here, so congrats on getting that right. Indeed, noone watches a movie for its bloopers, but after a few rounds, you kind of notice these things. However, having said that, there really isn't much bloopers or wrong about the continuity of the movie's editing. Every scene, frame and cut, seams and blends extremely well. I suppose the only hard cut I noticed, was during the middle of war, right before Eywa joined the battle, and the music suddenly ended.

OK, Iknimaya..
1. Any clue to the verb?
2. Dang! All I can remember is he calls it 'Boy'.
3. The Thanator? It eats T-Rex for breakfast, and the Aliens for lunch. God knows what it has for dinner.

Did anyone take the time to count how many flying gunships there where at Hellsgate? They must of been expecting trouble to have that many gunships. I wonder what sort of fuel they used and whether the fuel was manufactured onsite? Anybody got any ideas on this? Do you find this valuable?
