even tho i am a boy neytiri is my fav character, you dont see much girls/woman in action but it is different tht a girl/woman is one of the main Na'vi

this is very true, and it's one of the reasons i love Neytiri so much.My mother is an actress (not like famous or anything) and she's talked to me before about how most plays/movies always have a male main character, and the supporting actress is almost always the love interest. This is true for Avatar as well, but Neytiri's purpose in the movie isn't just to be sexy and add a romance feature for girls that go to see an otherwise masculine movie. This is how it is for most movies. But Neytiri has her own dominant personality, and she is the face of all the Na'vi for the viewer. Also, whenever there IS a female character as the main character, the movie is scoffed at and called a "chick flick." I do think Jake is the main character in Avatar, obviously, but i kinda felt that towards the end Jake and Neytiri become co-dominant. And i have a feeling that this is how the sequel will be, with the story revolving equally around Jake and Neytiri. Perhaps even more towards Neytiri because now the story is about HER side of things and it's not about Jake getting to know the Na'vi and changing the way he views nature and so on. But i think its refreshing that for once there can be a strong female character that male viewers actually like and don't just see her as the sex appeal. Do you find this valuable? |
